In Support of Artist Susan Schwartzenberg

This public art project in Downtown Los Angeles to commemorate the life and civic influences of Clara Shortridge Foltz was awarded to the Artist Susan Schwartzenberg in 2002. We worked closely with Schwartzenberg to develop the original conceptual design into a constructible installation within the project budget. The project is located on the main ground floor lobby and plaza level of this highrise courthouse office building named after Clara Foltz. The installation consisted of a series of glass panels embedded with “art” images and text that are attached to the existing lobby storefront system, several tapestry cloth panels hung from the granite panels of the elevator cores, exhibit lighting, and exterior benches for seating outside in the plaza. The layering of glass panels, tapestries and seating benches outside reflect the dynamic legacy of Clara Foltz, the first women lawyer in the State of California and a leader in the creation of the Public Defender System in the United States.

Construction budget: $261,000
