Sugahara Residence
San Francisco, CA

OSA designed this major renovation of a 1920's "Tudor" residence. The project included upgrading the hot water radiator system, repairing extensive dry rot, remodeling the 3,000 s.f. basement into a new library/family room, creating a transition zone between the street and the front door, and reconstructing the rear yard terraces. The new library/family room is the focal point of the basement. French doors and windows are strategically placed to bring view and light while blending with the existing exterior facade. The library was designed to house the client's extensive cookbook collection. A new oak stair flanking an existing brick fireplace foundation provides access to the main living level.
