SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES BLUEPRINT FOR A SUSTAINABLE BAY AREA SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, CA
Between 1992 and 1997, Paul Okamoto with others at Urban Ecology wrote the Blueprint for a Sustainable Bay Area. This publication outlines a regional vision for how development should occur in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Blueprint has won nine local and national awards including the American Planning Association's National Award for Education. The heart of the Blueprint describes the four areas of urban development in order of increasing scale: The Bay Area Home, Neighborhoods, Urban Centers, and the Region. Each of these chapters describes the problems, challenges, alternatives and real-life case studies.
